Swiggy, a popular food delivery platform in India, faced technical difficulties with its payment gateway on Friday, November 17, 2023. As a result, users were unable to complete their orders and make payments. The issue affected users across multiple cities in India, leading to frustration and inconvenience.
The outage began around 7:30 PM IST. During this time, users were unable to proceed with their orders, receiving error messages when attempting to make payments. Swiggy acknowledged the issue on its social media channels and apologized for the inconvenience caused.
“We regret to inform you that we’re experiencing a technical downtime due to which the payment failed. Not to fret, we’re working on fixing this and should be up and running soon,” said Swiggy on the X platform (formerly Twitter).
The temporary disruption of Swiggy’s payment gateway highlights the importance of having robust and reliable systems in place to handle a large volume of transactions. While technical glitches are inevitable, companies must strive to minimize downtime and ensure a seamless user experience.

Another X(Twiter) user posted a screen recording of being unable to pay using Swiggy Money either.
“@Swiggy is there any payment outage on the app? Unable to pay by any mode of UPI or card. Every time I place an order it says the transaction failed,” asked another X user.
